I've been cutting up some Arizona Ash from a tree in my backyard.
It has some nice curly figure.
It ranks 1320 on the Janka scale.
Is this hard enough for a fret board?
Thanks,
Dan

In hardness and shrinkage rates it's probably reasonably close to maple which Fender has used on about a bajillion fretboards. Like Fender you'll want to finish it or it will get dirty quickly.

Thanks James!
I'll give it a go.

Check out my thread in the local materials challenge section...I used ash for my fingerboard. I darkened it using vinegar and steel wool solution, then sealed it with a couple coats do TruOil. Ash is actually very resilient stuff. Tough to scrape and sand.

That looks really nice, Doug!
I would like to use the Ash for my local wood build too, since it came out of my backyard.
I don't want to be a copycat, so I'll leave mine clear.

That is just too pretty not to use, Dan!
